Hi! I'm Sally, owner and designer of Atelier Corbeau.
Atelier Corbeau is my clothing & Costume Design Passion Project based out of Atlanta, Georgia.
I started Atelier Corbeau in November 2023 to live my lifelong dream of being a costume designer. I'm so excited to celebrate a full year of Corbeau Design, so it's time for an official website!
What I Create
Atelier Corbeau is for the theatric. I started with costuming in mind, but the more I make, the more I want costuming and clothing to synonymous. I like bold. I like weird. I like unique. I like reimagining. That’s where costuming and clothing combine.
It has been such a joy to work along side some really fantastic Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter Tribute Acts! Replicating amazing sparkly outfits has been so much fun, and it is truly amazing to see my work on stage.
Why I Create
After seeing the demand for custom costumes during the eras tour and the rise of Taylor Swift tribute acts, I knew I had finally found my sewing and designing niche.
While I’ve been so grateful for the Swiftie start and following, I’m very excited to be able to expand my repertoire. I’ll still be doing costume recreations, but I’m ready to work on original designs too.
Who I am
Sewing and clothing and costume design has been my passion since I was a kid. I begged my grandma and mom to let me use their sewing machines and for them to take me to the store to buy fabric. In art class, I would fill sketch books with costume and dress designs. I'd watch reruns of Project Runway dreaming of sewing in the workroom alongside the other contestants and Tim Gunn. I'm so grateful to be in a long line of dressmakers and creative women.
Outside of clothing design, I love literature, visual art, linguistics, and history, and I find most of my design inspiration from these sources. I have a BA in English and French Language and Literature, from which I draw much of my inspiration.
As much as I love creating art, the most enjoyable aspect of the creative process for me is the technical side. Every new design is a logistical challenge, and every new problem requires a new creative solution. The beauty gets me started, but the technical challenge keeps me going.
